E-Learning Case Studies

Many organizations have discovered that web-based distance learning (e-Learning) programs add a powerful new dimension to their training efforts – enabling learners located almost anywhere in the world to acquire knowledge and skills at a pace and time of their choosing. Inspector Training

The VXI Integrated Fuel Monitor (VIFM) – International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

The Need

A common need for training arises from the introduction of new workplace equipment. When the IAEA adopted the VIFM to monitor and record the transfer of irradiated fuel bundles from reactor cores to storage areas in certain nuclear power generating stations, inspectors needed training in how to use it.

Approach

As inspectors are on the road for 150 days or more each year, self-paced distance learning is the best way to reach them. Androcom designed an interactive multimedia program featuring step-by-step procedural training, video demonstrations of key tasks, and thorough testing of learning using quizzes and applied exercises.

School Outreach

Exploring Canada’s Electoral System – Elections Canada

The Need

Even though elementary and high school students learn about Canada’s system of government in Civics or Social Studies classes, surveys indicated that they were often poorly informed about many aspects of Canada’s electoral system, in part because engaging, current information was in short supply.

Approach

Working with an Ottawa-area production company on behalf of Elections Canada, Androcom developed the learning design and production script for an interactive multimedia educational program designed for use in elementary and high school classrooms across Canada. Students navigate through a visual landscape to explore the electoral system in either English or French, then apply their knowledge by playing the “Election Challenge” game alone or in groups of up to 4 players.

Compliance Training
E-Learning for PSWs working in retirement homes – Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority

The Need

The Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) is mandated by the Government of Ontario to ensure the safety and well-being of seniors living in Ontario’s retirement homes. To help ensure that retirement homes and their employees meet the requirements of the Retirement Homes Act, 2010, the RHRA provides online learning programs dealing with compliance issues.

Approach

In collaboration with Algonquin College Corporate Training, Androcom developed two 30-minute E-Learning programs for PSWs and other retirement home staff on Developing Individual Plans of Care and Responding to Complaints. The programs include case studies based on common retirement home scenarios. Learners must choose among alternative courses of action, then receive detailed feedback.

Procedural Training
Instruction on how to use Acquisition Cards
Canadian Space Agency

The Need

Before being issued with a corporate Acquisition Card (i.e., credit card), CSE employees are required to complete an eLearning program on the rules and procedures that guide card usage.

Approach

To meet that need, Androcom worked with The VCAN Group and the CSA to develop a 90-minute E-Learning program that features narrated presentations, hyperlinks to authoritative references, end-of-module quizzes, a final test that must be completed with a score of at least 80%, and issuance of a Certificate of Achievement for successful completion. The Certificate must be included with the learner’s application for an Acquisition Card.
